I write. I dance. I make things.
I’m a multidisciplinary artists and writer based in Brooklyn, New York. My art is inspired by the string of disruptive events that shaped my life. My childhood, spent traveling stunning natural wonders of my native Slovenia and adjacent Croatia in my parents’ custom RV fostered a deep bond with nature. The breakup of former Yugoslavia and Slovenia’s successful fight for independence ended my childhood and showed me just how fragile “civilization” is. At eighteen, I moved to New York City to pursue a music career, then pivoted to running a tech support company. But even in one of the world’s most impressive centers of human achievement, I was not safe. Hurricane Sandy in 2012 most literally washed away the life I had built. Witnessing my neighborhood of Red Hook, Brooklyn, go from global metropolis to disaster zone that stayed without power, heat or cell phone service for 29 days, my perspective shifted. All our tech couldn’t light a candle to nature’s power. In our era, it wouldn’t be human skirmishes that make or break us. It would be whether we can negotiate a truce with the only truly global superpower that ever existed: the planet itself. And thus began my ongoing mission to write a story that would make my audiences feel this as viscerally as I did in October of 2012.
